Southampton to benefit from Liverpool’s planned sale of Sadio Mane

Southampton are set to benefit from the planned sale of Sadio Mane by Premier League rivals Liverpool this summer, according to reports.

The wide man’s name Mane has of course taken its place at the forefront of English media headlines over the past week.

This comes as the Senegalese is widely credited with telling those in positions of power at Anfield of his intention to seek new pastures ahead of next season.

German champions Bayern Munich, in turn, have become early favorites for his signing, as Liverpool prepare to live without the services of one of the key pillars of the club’s recent success.

As mentioned above, however, should Mane’s exit eventually materialize, his current club won’t be the only ones to benefit.

Joining Liverpool in any form of transfer over the coming months will also be Premier League rivals Southampton.

According to a report by reliable outlet The Athletic, a sell clause was included in the deal which brought Mane back from St. Mary’s to Anfield in the summer of 2016.

The terms of the deal entitle Southampton to a “lump sum” of all guaranteed fees for the 30-something’s services, of between 15 and 20 per cent.

In the event that Mane is indeed sold to Bayern for the sort of figure reported in the press over the week so far, then Southampton, in turn, will likely consider a cash injection of £5-6m.
